The Gautrey Influence Blog: Inspiring Action and Success Since 2008

A Weekly Workout for Your Influencing Skill

June 1, 2020 by Colin Gautrey

Since influence is the stand-out skill of today, it pays dividends to invest in developing your capability. But, you don’t need to go on a course to get better at it, all you have to do is look around you, think, then experiment.

Tell you what, try this exercise on a different individual each week and see what happens within a month.

Think of someone you consider to be highly influential.

  1. Why do you think that?
  2. Recall, in detail, a recent example of their influence.
  3. What did they do particularly well?
  4. How could they have done it even better?
  5. What do they do that you could do more of?
  6. What should you be doing less of?
  7. What specific action are you going to take this week to become more influential?

Now stop thinking and start acting.

And don’t forget, do this again next week.
